COMMUNITY PERCEPTION OF THE RAMBU SOLO' CEREMONY BASED ON SOCIAL STRATIFICATION IN LEMO WARD KEKENDEK DISTRICT TANA TORAJA

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe people's perceptions based on social stratification of the Rambu Solo ceremony in Lemo Village, Mengkendek District, Tana Toraja Regency. (2) to describe the motives that caused the Rambu Solo' ceremony to still be carried out today. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive type. The subjects in this study were the Toraja people who had carried out the Rambu Solo ceremony and 10 informants consisting of 4 traditional leaders, 2 community leaders, 1 religious leader, 3 community members. By using data collection techniques of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that: (1) the implementation of the Rambu Solo' ceremony creates various public perceptions, the Toraja people carry out the Rambu Solo' ceremony as a final tribute to the family who has died, but there are also those who say that the Rambu Solo' ceremony is a waste, prestige, social prestige and can increase status in society (2) The Toraja community in Lemo Village is still carrying out the Rambu Solo ceremony because the Rambu Solo ceremony is a final honor/servitude, and contains the values ​​of mutual cooperation, kinship and the existence of When carrying out the Rambu Solo ceremony, someone just gets the status of being called a dead person.
