Abstract

This study aims to increase student learning activity in Civics learning using the Talking Stick type learning model in class VIIIE of SMP Negeri I Balaesang Kab. Donggala. This type of research is classroom action research which is carried out in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, (4) reflection. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII E, totaling 27 people. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. By applying the talking stick type learning model, it can increase student learning activity in the form of increasing learning indicators, namely answering questions, asking questions, expressing opinions in discussions, and concluding learning materials. Based on the observation sheet on student learning activities in the first cycle in the aspect of answering questions, the percentage was 43.05% and increased in the second cycle to 70.83%. Aspects of asking questions in the first cycle obtained a percentage of 37.96% and increased again in the second cycle, namely 67.14%. Aspects of expressing opinions in the first cycle obtained a percentage of 38.88% and increased again in the second cycle to 71.75%. Aspects of concluding learning materials in the first cycle obtained a percentage of 39.81% and increased again to 70.83%. So it can be concluded that learning by applying the talking stick type of learning model can increase student learning activity, especially in class VIII E of SMP Negeri 1 Balaesang, Donggala Regency.
