The objective of the research is to find out the problems in speaking skills and to find out the causes of speaking problems in speaking skills encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs.Muhammadiyah Tolitoli. MTs Muhammadiyah School was located in Baolan district, Tolitoli regency, in Central Sulawesi. The method of this research is qualitative research method while the sample of this research was the eighth-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli was chosen by convenience sampling. Observation, interviews, and Questionnaires were the tools of data collection. Based on the data collected from questionnaires, interviews, and observations, it was found that skill factors are the most dominant problem than knowledge factors. It was found that 80% were problems with lack of confidence, 60% were problems with less motivation, and 60 % had problems with feeling shy in learning English speaking. It is followed by the knowledge factor which means a percentage of 72% the aspect of knowledge in learning speaking, 56% pronunciation, and 52% lack of vocabulary. The causes of speaking problems encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli is inhibition, environment, and mother tongue used.</p> Zarah Amelia H. Whether the problems that occurred may the students solve or not. The subjects of this research were 8 students of English Education Study Program. The research was a case study approach by applied qualitative. The instruments used to collect the data were tests and interviews. The result of data analysis showed that students struggle with generating ideas, vocabulary grammatical elements such as tenses, subject-verb agreement, spelling, and sentence structure while writing in English. To overcome those problems, students browsed on the internet to find other references, Grammarly to correct grammatical errors, and an electronic dictionary to translate Indonesian terms into English Terms. This research applied pre-experimental research design. The sample of this research was 21 eleventh grade students of ATPH 1 (<em>Agribisnis Tanaman Pangan dan Horticultura</em>) as known as Agriculture major, consisting of 21 students. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by administering a pronunciation test conducted before and after treatment, called pre-test and post-test. The result of pre-test and post-test shows that the mean score of pre-test is 34.44, and the mean score of post-test is 76.19. The result of data is analyzed statically by applying t-test formula. The result of data analysis shows that the value of the t-<sub>counted</sub> is(4.30) was higher than the t-<sub>table</sub> value (1.725) by applying 0.05 level of significance and 20 degree of freedom (df) 21-1 =20. This research used pre-experimental research design. The sample of this research was the grade seventh Lamalonda with 21 students that selected by using purposive sampling. The data was collected by administering a vocabulary test conducted before and after the treatment. The result&nbsp; of pre-test and post-test showed that the mean score of pre-test was 32.70 and the mean score of post-test was 76.19. The result of data analysis showed that the t-counted value (4.30) was higher than t-table value (1.725) by applying 0.05 level of significance and 20 degree of freedom (df). This research aims to find out pedagogical competence of English teachers in teaching English at SMP Negeri 13 Palu. Data collection techniques used were questionnaire, interview and observation. The observation was used to find out the students perception on the teacher's pedagogical competence in teaching English. The interview was used to determine the pedagogic competence of teachers in teaching English. The observation was also used to see the process of teaching English in the classroom. The result of questionnaire showed that students’ perceive on English teachers’ when teaching English were very good pedagogical competence in mastering the characteristics of students, ability to develop curriculum/syllabus, developing students potential and evaluation of learning outcomes. The results of interviews with four English teachers showed that there were some difficulties in learning they are in the use of technology and developing the potential of students. The results of the observations show that the pedagogic competence of four English teachers in teaching English is in the good. The researchers used correlation research design. The sample of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembo Raya that consisted of 50 students. The instruments of data collection were questionnaire and vocabulary test. The technique of data analysis used Pearson Product Moment. Based on the data analysis, the result shows that the r<sub>xy</sub> was -0.077 and the t-obtained was 0.597. It means that there is no significant correlation between reading habit and vocabulary mastery because students’ reading habit has no impact on their vocabulary mastery. This research used qualitative research design. The participants of this research were three English teachers. In collecting the data, the instruments used were observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The findings showed that there were some teaching strategies used by the teachers in teaching vocabulary. The strategies used by the English teachers in teaching vocabulary were:&nbsp; (1) the use of game like guessing game and dictation (by relying on learning topic), (2) reading textbook, (3) translation (by looking up dictionary), and (4) asking question.&nbsp; The main reason of implementing teaching strategies was, they wanted to make the students active in the class. Based on the results of the observation and interview, it was found that the methods used by the English teachers are the Audiolingual method and the Eclectic method in teaching English. This research is descriptive qualitative method which the results are tabulated and described. Data collection techniques are test and interview. The steps to analyze the data are to calculate the average score of each level and then the percentage of the average score. The results show that the percentage of average score on 2000 word level is 83.6%, 3000 word level is 81%, 5000 word level is 63%, 10000 word level is 21.6% and AWL (Academic Word List) is 77%. In conclusion, the grade VIII students at SMP Al-Azhar Mandiri Palu mastery vocabulary in high frequency word at 2000 and 3000 words level. The researchers applied qualitative descriptive by using questionnaire and interview questions in collecting data. The subjects were 10 students of English Education Study Program of Tadulako University batch 2021 who were currently using or have ever used Duolingo. There were 10 questions in the questionnaire and six questions in the interview questions. The results indicate that students’ perception in learning vocabulary through Duolingo is dominantly positive with the average score of 89.76%. The results of the research proved that Duolingo is very helpful in learning vocabulary since the application is easy to be used, interesting, fun, and free without ads.
