Abstract

The research objectives are: 1) To find out the factors that cause children to drop out of school in fishing communities; 2) To find out the impact of school dropout behavior on fishing communities; 3) To find out the efforts made to overcome school dropouts in fishing communities. The research location is in Ogomoli Village, Galang District, Tolitoli Regency. Data collection techniques used are: observation, interviews, and questionnaires. qualitative descriptive data processing technique that is processed using three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions to analyze the questionnaire data by using calculations based on percentages. The subjects of the study were 25 dropouts. The results showed that the factors causing children to drop out of school in Ogomoli Village were economic, environmental and motivational factors. The negative impacts caused by dropout children such as drinking liquor, fighting, and gambling for the positive impact of dropping out children can help parents find additional family economics and help the community in finding labor as boat fishermen and so on. Efforts are being made to overcome school dropouts in Ogomoli Village; First, the government conducts socialization, equalization of package A, package B and package C programs as well as distribution of assistance to fishing communities in the form of fish selling places, fishing boats (inka mina program). Second, parents, the community and the village government motivate children to stay in school and control deviant relationships in the community.
