Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors that cause children to drop out of school, identify the effects of children dropping out of school, and describe the efforts that can be made to overcome the number of children dropping out of school. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. There are 24 out of school children in Salukaia Village, Pamona Barat District, Poso Regency. Data collection techniques used observation, interview and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and verification / conclusions. The results showed that the factors that caused children to drop out of school were: economic factors, environmental factors, factors of lack of awareness of parents / family, and health factors. As for the impact of dropping out of school children: 1) The positive side of helping parents at home and helping the family economy from the results of their work in the garden and in the fields of people who are paid a day. 2) The negative side of juvenile delinquency such as fighting, theft, promiscuity, drunkenness, and drug use. Efforts made to cope with dropping out children include: 1) Providing direction to parents to proactively encourage their children to complete studies, 2) Providing training for those who have advantages in sports, 3) Forming farmer groups for school dropouts, 4) Provide space to innovate according to their respective creativity, 5) Government assistance in the form of packages A, B, C and assistance from the Social Service (DINSOS).
